I remember making these when I was in about second grade with dried and pressed flowers, a good springtime look. I think the kids will enjoy this project for lovely autumn table settings. HHmmm… Maybe send a set to Grandma’s house.
PRESSED LEAF PLACEMAT
Leaves
Wax paper
Iron
Towel
Measure an approximate size for your placemat. You’ll need two sheets of wax paper per placemat. Cut, measure and set aside. Gather your leaves. Place one sheet of wax paper (wax side up) on your work surface. Add leaves at will, no more than one layer thick. Add top layer of wax paper, wax side down.
Place a thin towel over your arrangement. Using an iron set on low, slowly and carefully press the iron into the placemat and glide across surface. Repeat after flipping placemat over. Allow to cool.
Trim edges and enjoy!

Wow! I think I’ll try that some time… Sounds really kewl and that it would be really pretty with some flower petals in it, but I have a Question… What happens to the leaves and petals over time?? Do they wilt at all or rot? Just wondering… =] But yeah, I think that’s a really fun idea to try

Hello mandymae! Thats a very good question that I think needs further investigating. If anyone has info to share on this question, please comment. Inquiring minds want to know. What I remember (when I was about second grade), was we picked and pressed the flowers between paper towels in very heavy books first, just like my children do still.
It would seem to me that the heat from the iron and the fact that it is a little wax on paper that it would be somewhat breathable…you think?

omg!
those probably look sooo perty!
I totally wanna try one too!
Well now is a great time to find leaves for our autumn (Halloween and Thanksgiving) place mats. I was thinking I might gather some acorns and pine cones, too…they could be used in a nice table center piece. I just thought of something…we could hot glue the acorns and pine cones together in a ring and place a candle in the center. Pretty!
