If you have a dog or puppy, you should be wary of the type of mulch you buy for your yard. Chocolate comes from the cocoa bean, but to chocolate makers, the shell is useless. So they use it to make mulch for yards.
The cocoa bean is composed of caffeine, stimulants, and theobromine, which are methylxanthines, and these chemicals are toxic to animals. This is a problem, since the shell gives off an alluring odor that animals–especially curious ones–usually cannot resist. The result? Some mulch missing, and your pet in pain.
