Can you believe it? It’s 2009! I saw on the TV that Wall Street had a up day for the first day open for the new year. They said, Liza Minnelli rang the bell, and it was fitting since she was the one that sang “Money is what makes the world go around”. Also, they said that the first open day of the new year usually sets the tone for the rest of the year. I sure hope that sticks this year, because they pointed out that the first day of 2008 was lousy and we all know how last year went.

Well, today is Christmas something… I have trouble remembering if it’s Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day. All I know for sure, is that tonight’s the night Santa is coming around. I hope I get a hermit crab!

Probably not… I don’t think his elves can make animals… can they? Is there anyone that’s ever gotten an animal from Santa before? Hmm… I wonder..

Yikes! the snow just keeps gettin’ higher and higher! I heard that on the west coast there was a storm.. I think around Oregon. I hope everyone’s alright. On the roads over here, everyone slipping and sliding. It’s sooo slippery! I remember that a few years back the roads got so icy by my house, that a lot of people got together and belly-slid across the street! It was very fun- but it was a very non busy road of course. Don’t want to give anybody ideas..

I wonder what type of cookies everyone makes for Santa. I make the typical sugar cookies. I save the other types for myself>.< I like gingerbread, Chocolate chip, and a lot of other kinds.. I watched a move the other night about Santa, and there were a lot of different kinds of cookies. Some I wouldn’t even suspect! I wonder if Santa gets other sweets like cakes and pies, too. I would be so tired after a night of eating so many sweets, i can see why he does it only once a year.

I finally figured out why he’s supposedly makes all the present trips in one night! There’s time zones! I guess it makes sense, but he’d only be able to go around in a certain direction, right? It’s kind of confusing, because he’d still have to go reaaaaly fast. oh well.

I hope it doesn’t snow any more tonight…. It would make it hard for people to go to people’s houses and have a happy Christmas. I have friends that go to other family houses and eat around four dinners a night! That would seem a little much food. If I did that, I probably wouldn’t make it past the second! I wonder how they do it. I just stay cozy at home for Christmas with my family ^.^

I ho-ho-hope everybody has some happy holidays!

Online purchasing of the award winning board game “Icosagame” just got easier with paypal added to the payment process. This is a wonderful board game our whole family loves to play! The kids even play with friends at school, which is great because of the educational nature of it. You can actually pick it up and take it with you to share with friends and family, and no TV or computer required. I think people enjoy the hands on the Icosagame provides. Yes, two games went out the door and off to school wrapped in holiday style just this morning. One for a high school math teacher and the other for a fourth grade teacher.

Gee…when does Winter start? After this weekends “winter storm warnings”, and blizzard like conditions in most of the state, our county and surrounding counties have issued a wind chill advisory that sends chills down my spine just reading about it. It reads like this, “Gusty winds will cause blowing and drifting of snow through Monday morning. Much colder temperatures will combine with the gusty winds to cause dangerous wind chill temperatures of 25 to 35 below zero late tonight and Monday morning. A wind chill advisory means a combination of bitterly cold arctic air and brisk winds will create dangerously cold wind chill values. If you must venture outdoors … be sure to cover all exposed flesh as any exposed flesh can freeze in 15 to 25 minutes with wind chill values from 25 below to 40 below. This may result in frost bite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken.” It sounds to me like a really good day to stay inside and bake holiday cookies!

I quickly spotted “Singapore” on the sending envelope, and “Australia” on the return envelope. They begin by saying “This is a very important statement”, I think of a statement as a bill I pay, unless it says Credit Statement, so my first question is “how much is this going to cost me?”. I do not see the word credit anywhere! As for the puzzle of skill…lol…20+5= 25 21 23 hmmm lets see hmmm…insult! Oh, and why do they require my signature? Ahh…sign to agree to let them send me alot of unwanted junk mail, thats what they are saying in not so fine print on the back of letter, but very, very faint print on the back of the letter. It is so faint you hardly notice it’s there. Yes, this has SCAM written all over it!!!

PRESSED LEAF PLACEMAT

Leaves

Wax paper

Iron

Towel

Measure an approximate size for your placemat. You’ll need two sheets of wax paper per placemat. Cut, measure and set aside. Gather your leaves. Place one sheet of wax paper (wax side up) on your work surface. Add leaves at will, no more than one layer thick. Add top layer of wax paper, wax side down.

Place a thin towel over your arrangement. Using an iron set on low, slowly and carefully press the iron into the placemat and glide across surface. Repeat after flipping placemat over. Allow to cool.

Trim edges and enjoy!

I love my oranges and plumbs. But I wish they were fresh in the same season! Peaches are looking really bad in the stores, and oranges look even worse. I know, I know. Not the best time of year. I’m happy that cherries and plumbs are back in season, and apples seem to be too. But I have a craving for oranges… Vitamin C power!!! (You know tomatoes have more vitamin C than oranges? Cool, I know. If only I liked them!)

Have you ever tried star fruit? I haven’t. It looks kinda good. Which strangely brings me to cantaloupe. Cantaloupe doesn’t look bad, so I think it’s in season over here, too. And if cantaloupe is in season, that means honey dew is too! I LOVE honey dew. It tastes sort of like cantaloupe, but it’s different… and green! Other green produce I know of is avocados! They are great in guacamole. I love guacamole with nachos, but the last time I was at the store, they looked kinda… bad.

Well, blueberries are produce too. Right? Anyway, they were moldy, but I love them, so I searched and searched until I found a container without mold… It was surprisingly hard! I’m just happy the strawberries are looking okay. I wish prices would go down, then I could eat them more often.

What I learned is that produce is good for you, and seasons matter when it comes to produce. So you can stay balanced and not have too much of let’s say… oranges. Nobody wants orange hair from eating too many

I think I’ll plant starts this year and maybe try starting from seed next year. Between the weather and the time it took clearing a garden area, which was a lot of work this year, but should be a lot easier next year. It looks to me we will still come out ahead $$$money wise and health wise buying starter plants this year.

I was informed by my youngest, that they ate the last organic gala apple and that I needed to go buy more. Well, we went to the store today and began to pick out a good bag of organic apples, but then noticed the price had jumped from $4 something to $7 something and the apples looked a little under the weather. While I was looking at the apples they were drooling over organic strawberries…they were $7 almost $8.00 for one container. Ouch…no strawberries today either. I think we need to plant apples trees and grow some strawberries.
