Good Morning all!
I stepped outside last night to listen to the lively frogs and noticed the night sky was quite bright with what appeared to be a full moon. So, I searched and found that the full moon is actually today!

Rain, rain, much needed rain we got and now much needed mowing to do with my cordless electric mower! Yes, we are back to that cycle of rain, sun then mow again, as you swat the mosquitoes that hatch quickly after the rain. I sure wish the mosquitoes didn’t like me so much, because when they get me I’m a itchy welt of a mess. I found what works the best to stop the mosquito itch is applying Tea Tree Oil ASAP to the bite site. One or sometimes two applications usually does the trick to stop the itch. Well there is the start of the new summer shopping list of necessary items: sun block, bug repellent and tea tree oil. Don’t you just love the warm weather and all that comes with it? Tree Going outside to prepare the garden for planting vegetables. Plan to plant green beans again this year, because they did very well in the spot they were planted. Also planning on planting zucchini, which is great for bread making and eating raw. Haven’t quite decided what else to plant yet. Maybe cucumber… Yes, it is breezy enough for kite flying today. The youngest decided to fly the kite but the wind decided to take it up when she wasn’t ready and the line got stuck in the tree. I went out to help and she suggested throwing the line back over the branch. I really didn’t think that to be the best solution, then grabbed the lines and pulled till I could reach the branch. Lucky it was a smaller and very flexible branch. I was able to unwrap the line from the branch. Hooray! Kite and line saved and not too much damage to the tree. Tree The weather has warmed, all is green again, the birds are singing by day, and the frogs are croaking by night…what a life! It was all I could do the other day, just sit their outside in my lawn chair, short sleeve tee, warm and comfortable and think to myself, “Wow, this is so great to just sit here outside, all warm, and not have to bundle up in so many layers you can hardly move while hurry to run inside before you freeze!” Have a great day! Tree All this took place to me last September of 2009. First the extra large dragonfly insists on landing on me, for about five minutes he flew around me attempting to land. So, I stopped walking and stood still and just waited a few seconds when he landed right on my arm. He was amazingly large, I have never before seen one quite that big. I told my daughter “quick take a picture before he leaves.” She got it! Great picture! Then the next week my youngest reports she needs to find either a toad, snapping turtle or tree frog for her science class. I tell her I am not going to the lake to find a snapping turtle (ouch), and I haven’t seen the toad yet this year (we had one living in the front garden last year). She pipes up “what about a tree frog?”, and I tell her “I saw one the other day while watering the vegetables she and I planted, but have not seen him since”. After she goes to bed I open the front door and there he was…just sitting there on the door step, I almost stepped on him…A Tree Frog! I managed to get a hold of this tree frog and find the bug catcher container in the garage, and with a bit of a struggle and some hopping I managed to get him into the container. Boy, they sure are slippery little guys. Off to school they went the next morning, and I must say at least one of them had a very big smile on their face. The other day a doe and her fawn walked by and down through the yard. Over the weekend my youngest and I were out in the back yard and watched three gray squirrels playing. I took some pictures but you can hardly make them out need a better camera for good shots from afar. A couple days ago I noticed the sunflowers we planted were blooming, so I ran in and grabbed the camera to take a picture. I get all set to take the picture and suddenly a large bumble bee shows up…not camera shy. So, I take a picture, then another bumble bee shows up. Wow! I get in there close, the flowers are swaying with the wind and then the bees decide to get on the same flower…cool…two in one shot! Gee I wonder whats next? Tree Went to the high school band concert tonight and they were great! It has been a good year for them, with several concerts, and many sports games to play. Their football team went to the play offs and the band went to the big city with them and outplayed the other band hands down. Go Band! Tree This last weekend after hearing the kids repeatedly requesting “grilled hamburgers, please”, I did in fact pull out my Weber grill from its long winter (and I mean long) storage. I never had the chance last Autumn to clean it properly for storage, so I knew what was going to have to be done before any food touched it. Cleaning the grill is not anywhere near the of my list of enjoyable thing to clean. But I must say when I finished soaking it with Seventh Generation all purpose cleaner in the yard and then a good wipe and rinse it did shine much like new. Tree Just another day of a few chores around the quiet house while kids are at school. I was busy putting away clean laundry, when out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw someone running past the window. So, I quickly went to the window and to my surprise my yard was full of police cars and officers running after a man, so much for quiet! I ran to the other room and shouted “There’s a lot of police in our yard!” Then we both very quickly went to the windows to see what was going on. By then they had their man on the ground and shouting “don’t move”, and quickly cuffed and put him into the police vehicle they had driven right into the back yard. Almost as quickly as they came they were gone, with only a few tire tracks left in the very soggy grass. I have no idea who the man was or what he had done and probably never will. The police obviously wanted him pretty bad and they did get there man. It is good to see for myself how responsive the local police are, but all the same I think I would prefer to not see it again in my back yard. I do thankfully my children were not in the yard at the time, and no one was hurt. Tree |
